Your next step to lower bills
Energy prices change often, and the best deal last year may not be the best one now. Don’t miss out on getting the cheapest energy prices for your home. It only takes a few minutes to check.
Same energy, smaller bill.
There are two simple ways to make sure you’re on the best deal for your home:
-
Check your bill or ask your energy company for their best offer
-
Compare all energy companies with Victorian Energy Compare
1. Check your bill or ask your energy company for their best offer
Your energy bill tells you if there’s a cheaper plan available for your home. Look for the line that says “Could you save money on another plan?”
That’s not marketing — it’s a Victorian Government requirement that makes energy companies responsible for showing you the cheapest plan based on your actual energy use.

It’s likely you’re not on your energy company’s cheapest plan at the moment (companies have dozens of different ones). So, if your bill says you can save, call your energy company and ask them to switch you on to the ‘best offer’.
Our video shows you what to say and what to expect when you call your energy company to get the best offer.

Not ready to compare? No problem
If comparing plans feels overwhelming, don’t worry. Even if you choose not to switch, there’s a fair-priced plan available to help.
The Victorian Default Offer (VDO) is the government’s fair price for electricity.
If you don’t want to compare or switch energy plans, you can call your energy company and ask to be put on the Victorian Default Offer.
While it may not be the cheapest plan for your home, the Victorian Default Offer is a fair price, monitored and set each year by the energy regulator.
-
The Victorian Default Offer price is the same across all energy companies.
-
Once you’re on the Victorian Default Offer, your rate will update yearly until you choose to switch to a different plan.
The Essential Services Commission, the regulator for energy in Victoria, has more information about the Victorian Default Offer.
